The Quick Take
LogoYes is the second-most heavily visited online logo design web site featured in our comparison (after Logoworks), offering custom logo design services as well as a self-service online tool for you to design your own logo at a much lower price.
The self-service model is fairly easy to use (and is much more robust than VistaPrint’s similar model), and offers adequate freedom in graphical manipulations and choices of icons. You can test-drive it for free, and pay the $69 fee only when you decide to purchase the files. The full custom-design model is available for $289, which includes three concept designs, and unlimited revisions until you are 100% satisfied.
LogoYes is a good choice for do-it-yourselfers, or companies needing a very quick and inexpensive logo. However, customers should be aware that the icons used in the self-serve wizard are fair game for other companies, and may turn up in other logos.

Details
LogoYes.com was founded by the designer-writer team of John and Elizabeth Williams, and evolved out of their full-service, award-winning advertising agency Logic Design, whose clients included Fortune 500 companies such as Mitsubishi, Caterpillar, and HP. John Williams is featured as the Branding Columnist and Image and Branding Coach on Entrepreneur.com. LogoYes’ stated mission is to “provide professional, affordable design products that equip small businesses to compete with big ones.”
LogoYes is the self-proclaimed pioneer in the “DIY” logo design service, and it is certainly the focus of the company’s website. The self-service design wizard is much more robust than VistaPrint’s similar DIY offering, although it is $50 more. You can move images around and play with size, font, and color as much as you like. A handy “Image Calculator” helps you determine the style of your logo and suggests appropriate images for you by asking an impressive series of questions about your business culture and the demographics of your customers. However, the database of icons is refreshed each day, and the LogoYes site warns that the icon you choose today may not be available again tomorrow. Furthermore, there is no mechanism for saving your creation prior to purchase, which makes it impractical to solicit feedback from colleagues unless they are close at hand. Essentially, you must decide to buy it on the spot, or else return later to repeat the process from scratch (hoping that the graphic you selected is still available). The tool is slick and easy to use, though, so recreating your logo if needed should not be a hardship in most cases.
Although LogoYes retains the copyright to the stock icons from their online library, the website explains that since the icon is changed in size and color and is used in conjunction with your company name, the resulting logo can be trademarked by you. However, the use of these common icons can mean that the one you choose could appear in other customers’ logos, possibly lessening the uniqueness of your own logo.
The custom design service does not get a lot of space or emphasis at the website, and in fact it’s easy to miss. Most of the web site is devoted to the $69 DIY service, and the custom option is not fully described. The amount of design input requested for the custom logo design service is extremely limited, so you will probably want to check the box that says “Have a design professional call me to discuss my business.” Presumably the custom design work is provided by the staff of the aforementioned advertising/design agency (Logic Design) which birthed the LogoYes DIY service. Despite the lack of emphasis on the LogoYes web site, the sample custom designed logos shown there are attractive and professional. For $289, you can get three concepts and unlimited revisions. However, no mention is made about how many designers will work on your designs or what the expected turnaround time is for the revisions or final product. Both options deliver high-resolution EPS, JPG, and GIF files for download.
The site does not mention details about customer support, although an 800 number is provided. There is a plethora of articles penned by John Williams at the LogoYes site, providing expert resources and information about logo design, branding, and general marketing tips.
Other Services
Although these services are not mentioned until you begin the checkout process for the custom design service, LogoYes also provides Business Card designs ($49), SmartBrand Postcard design ($149), SmartBrand Brochure design ($299), and website design and development services (call for quote). Business Card design is available on the self-serve option for an additional $30.
